La Navarra e i suoi abitanti nella Guida del pellegrino di san Giacomo

Abstract

The main source of this contribution is the Guide of the Pilgrim of St. James, the fifth of the volumes of the Liber sancti Iacobi, a manuscript know as Codex Calixtinus, wrote in the XIIth century in France. This historical-anthropological study analyzes the steps of this text about the Hispanic region of Navarre and its inhabitants. After the Pyrenees the first four days of the pilgrim's journey took place in the kingdom of Navarre, that is fertile, lush and a great land. However, its inhabitants turn out to be despicable people, wicked, perverse, drunk, evil, bad in appearance, in language and in clothing, rough when they eat, always devoted to robbing, trick and killing foreigners, headed to Galicia.
